This time of year is Hollywood's most diverse, offering a mix of dark drama vying for Academy Award attention, action, horror and fantasy sagas, and light comedy and animated films. The season offers a couple of real-world holiday stories with "This Christmas," a family-reunion flick whose ensemble cast includes Delroy Lindo, Regina King and Mekhi Phifer, and "The Perfect Holiday," featuring Gabrielle Union, Morris Chestnut, Queen Latifah and Terrence Howard in a romance between a single mom and a store Santa. In his first big project since his sitcom went off the air, Seinfeld also co-wrote "Bee Movie," the idea stemming from his childhood fascination for nature documentaries. Exactly $66,227 was taken from the Spring Quarter fund for events occurring during that quarter.

Since two more meetings will occur during Winter Quarter, board members discussed collecting allocated funds from Fall Quarter that were left unspent. Additionally, board member Tuyen Nguyen said the board should refrain from taking funds reserved for Spring Quarter.

"This situation has put us in a place where we need to be critical, determine what should be funded and look at our priorities," Nguyen said.

The Russian Club received an additional $8,979.40 for its possible upcoming concert featuring Russian pop group t.A.T.u. that is still in negotiation. The club was allocated $12,990 in a previous meeting.

Absolutely Drabio

It was a very strange night, but an interesting one nonetheless.

First things first, it was nice not to have a pre-match interview with McClaren. You know, the one that left you feeling a bit like youd eaten too many Quality Street.

This bloke Capello doesn't do grins. You're more likely to get a smile out of an undertakers cat.

Secondly, everyone at the Blue Bell looked at the team-sheet and said 'Brown! Upson! JENAS!!!!' and then just shrugged. 'Cos we realised the new man had been doing his homework and that the team on the pitch were the ones who had played the best when he was there.

Actually I was beginning to think the only reason JJ was ever in a squad was because he was always willing to caddie of a Thursday.

However, the first half was rank.

Chris Bangle: Damned by success

Leftlane news notes today that BMW Group Chief Designer Christopher Bangle has gone from car design pariah to messiah, based on the fleet of BMW look-alike models cropping up on rivals' stands at the Detroit Auto Show this week. Mild-mannered Toyota, which once mimicked Mercedes' staid lines, is now clearly aiming now at high-flying BMW with the more emotional styling of its new IS and LS models. Even rival Mercedes, which lost the global lead in premium car sales to BMW this year, is taking on Bimmer attributes, with models that boast a more muscular, dynamic stance — just look at the new S Class.

But is all that flattering imitation going to be good for BMW? Bangle's achievement was to make BMW stand out from the pack. His controversial design turned heads. Even that big heavy 7 Series bumper — "The Bangle Butt" — which didn't look half as big on US roads, got everyone talking about BMW.

Obama beats... Jesse Jackson?

3. Imagine if Hillary Clinton (or Barack Obama) had an aide who ran around saying such things. Would it cause a controversy? Ask Lani Guinier!

P.S.: Hot Air has posted a montage of Hernandez' TV appearances. Again, at first you think it's unfair--it undoubtedly is--but by the end he gives you the geniune creeps, having perfected a combination of Jeff Birnbaum's oleaginous faux-joviality and Tom Cruise's inexplicably wired commitment. ... P.P.S.: Here's his Web site home page. ... 2:24 A.M. link

From navigation to HD radio, features to marvel over

If you've been out of the car market for a few years, the landscape may look completely different now with all the high-end technology features available today. If you're searching for a luxury car, it's even more overwhelming, as the segment is filled with gadgets.

Some of them are just that - gadgets with little practical use. There are others, however, that provide real benefits, making driving a more enjoyable, safer experience. Let's take a look at some of them.

Adaptive cruise control

Cruise control has long been the friend of the cross-country driver, and adaptive cruise control provides the added benefit of being able to maintain a set following distance behind the car in front of you; when that distance is reached, the car stays at that range.

Corporate interest costs take second-biggest quarterly jump

NEW DELHI: Interest costs for corporates rose faster in the quarter ended December 2007 than they have in seven quarters and at 40.5% year on year for a sample size, this is the second biggest jump since Corporate India started reporting quarterly numbers.

Thus, even though other income was up 38% year on year, net financial income to pre-tax profit fell slightly quarter on quarter, to 9.4 % — still above the long term average of 4%.

Revenue growth for Corporate India slipped to a 10-quarter low for the quarter ended December 2007. Excluding the volatile energy sector, revenue growth for a sample of 95 companies slipped to 15.9%, pretty much in line with the slowing macro environment, according to Morgan Stanley. Gross margins moved up 20 bps quarter-on-quarter, with a major upward move in consumer staples and the opposite in consumer discretionary.
