Sheriff might seek sales tax hike Growth spurs need for officers ...
Faced with policing an ever-expanding metropolis, Clark County Sheriff Doug Gillespie is eyeing changes on two fronts to tackle growth both inside county borders and the county jail. The sheriff said Tuesday there is a "strong possibility" he will head to Carson City next year and ask the Legislature to approve an additional quarter-cent sales tax to hire more police officers. The message has changed from a year ago, when the sheriff said the additional tax might not be needed so soon. But sales tax revenue has fallen with the sluggish economy and would not support enough new officers to keep up with growth, he said. Gillespie credited the more than 250 officers hired under the first phase of the More Cops initiative, which raised the sales tax by a quarter cent, with helping to cut the overall crime rate last year, including drops in homicides, robberies, rapes and traffic deaths.
Tim Wilkerson tops Funny Car qualifying at Firebird International
CHANDLER, Ariz. — Tim Wilkerson raced to his second consecutive No. 1 qualifying position of the Funny Car season Saturday, topping qualifying for the Checker Schuck's Kragen NHRA Nationals at Firebird International Raceway. Brandon Bernstein and Allen Johnson also were the No. 1 qualifiers in their divisions in the second NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series event of the season. Wilkerson drove his Chevy Impala SS to a 4.775-second run at 327.03 mph after rain Friday shortened the qualifying sessions from four to two. Bernstein, who earned his 12th No. 1 qualifying award of his career, moved to the top of the field on the last qualifying session. Returning to the site of his first career win in 2003, Bernstein drove his dragster to the top spot with a run of 4.515 at 330.31, after rain canceled the first two qualifying sessions Friday.

“Just to clarify your Mariah E=MC2 comment it has nothing to do with Eminem. E stands for Emancipation(as in the title of her last album) MC is self explanatory and the 2 or squared simply means part 2. Emancipation of Mariah 2 but doesn't E=MC2 sound alot better."
