Track World Cup 06-07 Round 1 - CDM

In a change from previous years, Sydney is now hosting the opening round of the UCI Track Cycling World Cup. 242 riders representing 32 nations will compete in 16 events in three days of cycling action at the Dunc Gray velodrome. The entry list includes eight reigning World Champions, Olympic and World Champion medallists, as well as five of Australia's Melbourne Commonwealth Games gold medallists.

Recently introduced changes to the UCI World Cup Series allow for professional track team entries, similar to the current set up for road and mountain bike racing, which means the host nation will actually field three teams. The inclusion of the Australian 'Cyclones' National team and the SouthAustralia.com-AIS and Drapac-Porsche professional teams means fans will not only have the chance to cheer on their heroes, they will also witness the young stars with their sights set on the 2008 Olympic Games.

Big wheels keep up to the marque by buying flash

AS ECONOMIC barometers go, there could hardly be any more dashing — a $580,000 status symbol on wheels — and at least 80 Australians have already placed their order for Ferrari's slick new model, the F430 Scuderia.

The latest street incarnation of the world's most famous motor racing emblem is an eight-cylinder, 503-horsepower, high-performance vehicle its Italian makers would seem wholly justified in touting as a "unique supercar perfect for passionate and sporty customers".

Then there's the Porsche 911 turbo, retailing at $370,000. More than 100 Australians put themselves behind the wheel of one last year, and others are queuing to take delivery of the next generation GT2 priced at $425,000. Property developer Zac Brankovic, 38, who has been driving Porsches for about five years, shelled out $260,000 for his Porsche Carrera S convertible.

Little Fiat sexiest car ever

Top Gear magazine has voted the humble Fiat 500, which looks like a cross between a Mini and a VW Beetle, No 1 for setting pulses racing.

It tops a list of 100 sexiest cars because the mag claims anyone behind the wheel looks sexually charged ? even a nun.

Contributing editor James May defended the bizarre choice yesterday, saying: The Fiat 500 advertises nothing about its owner, except that it’s someone who doesn’t need to try.

Top Gear’s top ten sexiest cars:

1. Fiat 500; 2. Aston Martin DBS; 3. Maserati Quattroporte; 4. Chevrolet Camaro; 5. Citroen C6; 6. Lincoln Continental; 7. Bentley Continental S1 Fastback; 8. BMW M1; 9. Rolls-Royce Phantom; 10. Sally the Porsche 911 Carrera (from the animated film Cars).

Dartmouth flexes, Vermont impresses

After two weeks of Eastern Intercollegiate Skiing Association action, Dartmouth has shown itself a worthy defender of the NCAA title it won last March.

The Big Green won the Bates Carnival handily in Week 1, and then captured the St. Lawrence Carnival with 587 points, 32 more than Middlebury. Vermont placed third with 527 points - the Eastern powers finishing in the same order for the second straight week.

Vermont won both men's and women's slalom races at Whiteface Mountain Saturday, with four Catamount women finishing in the top five. The Catamounts' Lyndee Janowiak took her first win of the season, edging New Hampshire's Veronique Archambault-Leger for line honors, with Vermont's Kara Crow placing third.

Following a disappointing seventh-place finish at the Bates Carnival, the Vermont men placed three slalom racers in the top six to win the event, topping Middlebury and Dartmouth.

Giants will have to spend to keep S Wilson

I see a lot of people in favor of letting Wilson walk, which is all good and fine, but the only potential replacements I've seen here are Huff, Webster, Wilkinson, and Tyree. One unproven youngster, two defensive players at other postions and a WR. Not exactly a comforting list. And I dont know if I would trust James Butler playing along side a rookie S. Actualy, I dont know if i'd even trust James Butler if he was playing with Ronnie Lott.
