Computer-Aided Detection in Screening Mammography Enhances Performance ...
BEDFORD, Mass., Feb. 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Hologic, Inc. (NASDAQ: HOLX) , a diversified medical technologies company specializing in imaging systems, diagnostics, and interventional devices dedicated to serving the healthcare needs of women, today announced the publication of a large scale breast screening trial comparing a single radiologist using computer- aided detection (CAD) to double reading without CAD. The author of the study is Dr. Matthew Gromet of the Breast Imaging Section of Charlotte Radiology, a large imaging practice (approximately 66,000 screening mammograms a year) in Charlotte, North Carolina. Weak consumer spending hurts Nordstrom
Designer products across all categories, accessories and women's shoes posted better-than-average sales in the latest quarter, Nordstrom said. It's too early to tell if Nordstrom is being overly optimistic projecting sales will strengthen later this year, said Dan Geiman, an analyst with McAdams Wright Ragen. Nordstrom plans to open eight full-line department stores in 2008, including its first in Hawaii next month, and said it has been picky about choosing regions where it expects solid growth. A 144,000-square-foot Nordstrom store to replace a smaller facility is scheduled to open at the Tacoma Mall this fall. The News Tribune contributed to this report. .

While the liberal establishment may be conflicted over whether it wants Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama as the Democratic presidential nominee, there's no doubt which Republican it favors. John McCain is the liberal elite's go-to guy in the GOP. They believe he'll be there for them when they need him. That was the essential message of last week's New York Times editorial endorsing McCain for the Republican nomination. "With a record of working across the aisle to develop sound bipartisan legislation, he would offer a choice to a broader range of Americans than the rest of the Republican field," said the Times. "We have shuddered at McCain's occasional, tactical pander to the right because he has demonstrated that he has the character to stand on principle." What the Times is saying here is that it does not take McCain's conservative campaign-season rhetoric seriously.
Water link to keep fundraisers flowing
Officials have approved a $2,000 plan to install a new water connection in the municipal parking lot that will allow town groups to continue holding fundraising car washes there without costing the town money. Car washes in the municipal parking lot across from the Civic Center are an annual fundraising rite of spring for youth sports teams and other organizations. Dozens of groups hold car washes every year, but with the municipal belt tightening, town officials are looking at ways to ensure the events aren't cleaning out Norwood bank accounts. Selectmen Chairman Tom McQuaid asked General Manager John Carroll to talk to water department officials to find a solution to the problem of having to pay a water department employee overtime during car washes to have somebody to turn the water on and off at the site.
